The #1 song in the US was “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor where it would remain for five more weeks.
The song was written at the request of Sylvester Stallone for the Rocky III soundtrack. “Eye of the Tiger” also reached #1 in the UK, Ireland and Australia. It went on to win a Grammy Award, an Academy Award nomination and was voted “Best New Song” at the People’s Choice Awards.
Survivor went released several hit singles in the early 1980’s before tastes changed with the emergence of “hair bands” like Motley Crue and Poison by the end of the decade.
